“Welcome
Brother Knights to the October ’05 issue of The Sacred Heart Knights of
Columbus Council 6525 Newsletter. Our
mission is simply to keep you informed.
This means we will try to bring you as much current information as
possible. We will collect and publish minutes from meetings you may not
have attended, provide a column for feature items and alert you to
upcoming events and work schedules. We
welcome your questions and comments and will address all concerns or
requests”.
May God Bless You,

GRAND KNIGHT’S COLUMN
Brother Knights,
Welcome
to October. Fall sure seems
to be in full swing, the days are getting shorter and cooler, and a few
leaves are starting to fall. This
type of weather sure is a welcomed relief compared to the dry hot summer
we just experienced.
Anyway,
along with the pleasant weather, comes more weddings, school functions,
and summer end celebrations. We
have a variety of functions scheduled, and nearly every weekend filled,
and a lot of the weddings are fairly large, requiring extra food
preparations, and EXTRA help. Please
take note of the enclosed work schedule, and if at all possible, be
available to assist when it is your turn.
If you absolutely cannot be there, call someone you know from
another crew and trade with them, and let your team captain know who is
filling in for you.
We
have just a few things to discuss at the meeting.
Todd Mack will have a report on the M.R. Drive (a.k.a. Tootsie
Roll) and we will decide where to donate our portion of the donations. Todd should also have a report as to how things are coming
along with the Night-at-the-Races scheduled for October 30. We had a great turn out on this last year, and would like to
see more of our members support this.
So mark your calendars, and plan to be there.
Another
discussion that I have had with a few members concerns the fifth Sunday
Mass and breakfast. The
Pro-Life committee at Church is holding a fund raising breakfast on that
same Sunday. We have talked
with Father, and we have the O.K. to set up a membership drive this Sunday
also. What I think would be a good show of support, is for us, The
Knights of Columbus, is to forego our breakfast at the hall, and support
the Pro-Life committee by attending their breakfast that morning, and
possibly bringing a new member to the Council.
Something
else happening this month is the annual Special Olympics banquet, this
event has been held at the K of C hall for several years, and we donate
the meal, and the workers for this. This
year it’s scheduled for Oct. 27th, we
will not schedule a crew for this, but rather will rely on the generosity
of you, the membership to donate some of your time to support this very
worthwhile cause.
In
closing, as most of you know, my wife Hayley and I are very close to
having child number six. So
close that we have scheduled Oct. 21st for the delivery date.
However, should God have other plans, we could go at any time.
I tell you this as preparation for the meeting Oct. 20th,
I plan to be there, but as of right now I cannot guarantee that I will.
So, should I be absent, that will be why.
Fraternally,
Randy Leitman, G.K.

MINUTES FROM THE SEPTEMBER HOME ASSOCIATION MEETINGS
As recorded by Paul Orf and John Boland:
September 13th & 27th,
2005 - 7:30 P.M.
Bills approved and paid.
Donate Hall rental to Council for Night
At The Races in exchange for Council to pay to improve PA System.
Use of The Pavilion or The Multi-Purpose
Bldg. is restricted to active Council Members and their immediate families
only. Also, a $50.00 deposit
is required and will be refunded after a final inspection.
Thank
you each and every member of our Council and of The Ladies Auxiliary, that
are able to work the functions that we hold. This is how we generate
income to pay for projects like “Hall Improvements”.
The floor-resurfacing job was contracted to professionals, and the
Hall was shut down for the entire month of August.
This cost a great deal of money and caused a loss of income for
that period. However, the
kitchen was emptied, cleaned, painted and every item big and small was
cleaned again and replaced. The
baseboards were removed, refinished and reinstalled.
Every table and chair was cleaned and replaced.
The ceiling tiles were cleaned or replaced.
The vents were cleaned and lights were cleaned or replaced.
The stage was removed and a new one built in its place.
This was all possible only as a result of the extra time, talent
and effort donated by several generous people.
Not wanting to leave anyone unmentioned, thank you to all that
helped. (You know who you
are.) Also, a special thank
you to The Ladies Auxiliary for paying for half of the cost of the new
floor.
THE OCTOBER MEETINGS ARE THE 11th & 25th,
AT 7:30 P.M.
LECTURER’S COLUMN
October
is the Month of The Rosary. Consider
this quote from Pope Benedict XVI, “The Rosary is the mystic crown which
people place everyday on the queenly head of the Mother of God.
This Prayer is perfect because of the Praise it offers, the lessons
it imparts, the Grace it obtains and the victory it achieves.”
Are
you sometimes discouraged and worried?
Here is what Our Lady of Guadeloupe said to St. Juan Diego in 1531,
which still applies to each of us today, “Hear and let it penetrate into
your heart, my dear little son; let nothing discourage you, nothing
depress you. Let nothing alter your heart, or your countenance.
Am I not here who am your Mother?
Are you not under my shadow and protection?
Am I not your fountain of life?
Are you not in the folds of my mantle?
In the crossing of my arms? Is
there anything else you need? Do
not fear any illness or vexation, anxiety or pain…”
What
a great consolation and joy that is, how fortunate we are.
Peace,
Dr.
John C. Soucy, Jr., M.D.

NOTE:
The
Knight of the Month and Family of the Month awards are usually announced
at our Council Meetings. And
from this group, our Knight of the Year and Family of the Year award
recipients are chosen. These
awards are a small token of appreciation for these members and for what
they do. They take the initiative to go above and beyond the call of
duty. They support not only
the Council and its activities, but also our Parish and The Community as
well. They are true examples
of Christ here on earth. And
these men and women not only show a Christian and charitable way of life,
THEY LIVE IT!
Time
and space do not allow much continuation.
However, next months newsletter will contain the October
recipients, and a short biography to allow you, the rest of the members to
know a little bit more about these extraordinary men and women, and why
they are chosen for this recognition.

Some Good Clean Fun: A farmer got pulled over by a state trooper for speeding, and
the trooper started to lecture the farmer about his speed, and in general
began to throw his weight around to try to make the farmer uncomfortable.
Finally, the trooper got around to
writing out the ticket, and as he was doing that he kept swatting at some
flies that were buzzing around his head. The farmer said, "Having
some problems with circle flies there, Are Ya?"
The trooper stopped writing the
ticket and said--"Well yeah, if that's what they are--I never heard
of circle flies." So the farmer says--"Well, circle flies are
common on farms. See, they're called circle flies because they're almost
always found circling around the back end of a horse."
The trooper says, "Oh," and
goes back to writing the ticket. Then after a minute he stops and says,
"Hey...wait a minute, are you trying to call me a horses' rear?"
The farmer says, "Oh no,
officer. I have too much respect for law enforcement and police officers
to even think about calling you a horses' rear."
The trooper says, "Well, that's
a good thing," and goes back to writing the ticket.
After a long pause, the farmer says,
"Hard to fool them flies though."
