GRAND KNIGHT’S COLUMN

Brother Knights,

Welcome to the November newsletter, as most of you know by now, my wife Hayley and I had our sixth child, on October 20, 2005, a pretty healthy baby boy, who weighed 9 lbs. 9 oz. who we named Simon Alexander. Hayley and Simon are both doing well, and I wish to thank all of you for your thoughts, prayers and gifts.

Our membership drive, which was held in the school cafeteria at the Pro-Life breakfast,

was fairly successful, and we have enough men wishing to join that we will hold a first degree at the November 17th meeting. With this drive, we also have a few reactivations as well. Thanks to those who set this up and signed these men up.

Thanks also to all you men, women, and family members who helped to make this year’s MR Drive a great success. We will have a full report at the meeting, and be deciding what charities we will be donating to.

I also believe our Night at the Races was very successful as well and thanks to all those who made this a success.

Don’t forget our Council’s Christmas Party on December 3, after the 5 o’clock Mass. Bring a covered dish and a gift for your kids.

And finally our Thanksgiving/ Christmas party for the handicapped I believe is December 4, details at the meeting, please try to lend a hand at this event if possible. It is quite a joy to see these people less fortunate than us get such a kick out of something so simple.

Fraternally,

Randy Leitman

Grand Knight

FINANCIAL SECRETARY’S COLUMN

There are a few things that I need to address this month so I apologize in advance for a lengthy column.

The annual dues notices should be going out shortly. I want to thank those of you who have taken the initiative to send in your dues before the notices have been sent out as this will help out dramatically in the process. Anyone that wishes to pay ahead of time can either send me $27.50 to my home address, which is listed at the end of this column or they can pay me at the next meeting.

The New Year’s Eve dance that was proposed by me at the last meeting is going to need to be put on hold until next year simply due to time restraints. It needs to be gotten together a little more ahead of time. I am sure that it could definitely be a success.

The Drug and Alcohol Awareness Poster Contest was completed at Sacred Heart and was a success. We had grades 3-8 participate in this and the winners were chosen at the Home Association meeting this month. I would like to thank everyone that helped judge the posters as this helped dramatically in bringing a decision to the great entries that were submitted. The winners list can be provided to you if you ask me.

The membership drive was a success and it looks like we may have around 6 members either newly joining or rejoining at the November meeting. Please be there to welcome them.

Larry Fague will not be at this month’s meeting to take pictures for the member directory that we are trying to put together but will be at the December and January meetings to take them if you did not have your picture taken at the last meeting. Please try and be at one of those meetings to get your picture in the directory and have your information up to date.

There will be a 4th degree taking place on April 1st of next year if you have not yet taken your 4th degree I would encourage you to do so as this really brings everything together as to why we do what we do. Also there will be a 2nd and 3rd degree being done on December 11th. Please let me know if you want to take either of those degrees.

Finally I would like to have the Squires club and Columbus girls restarted but I can not possibly take on chairing another thing right now.  I would be more than happy to assist anyone that would be interested in getting those organizations going again. Please let me know if you have some extra time and would be willing to help out or possibly chair this.

As you can see I have been very busy so if there is something that I said I would do and have not done it then please accept my apology as sometimes I get so busy that some things may fall by the wayside unintentionally. If you have extra time and can help out with anything at all please let me know as I am sure that I can find some things for you to help alleviate some of this and help the council continue in the direction that it is going.

Fraternally yours,

Jason Bolte

LECTURER’S COLUMN

By Dr. John C. Soucy, Jr., M.D.:

Pray the Holy Mass

“The Holy Mass is a prayer itself, even the highest prayer that exists.  It is the Sacrifice dedicated by our Redeemer at the Cross, and repeated every day on the Alter.  If you wish to hear Mass as it should be heard, you must follow with eye, heart and mouth all that happens at the Altar.  Further, you must pray with the Priest the holy words said by him in the Name of Christ and which are contained in these words and in the manner you ought to follow all that happens on the Altar.  When acting in this way you have prayed Holy Mass”.

“Don’t pray at Holy Mass, but pray the Holy Mass”

His Holiness, Pope Saint Pius X

Some Good Clean Fun:

BUILD ME A BRIDGE
A man walking along a California beach was deep in prayer.
Suddenly the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, the Lord said, "Because you have TRIED to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish."
The man said, "Build me a bridge to Hawaii so I can drive over anytime I want."
"Your request is very materialistic," the Lord said. "Think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking. The supports to the bottom of the Pacific! The concrete and steel it would take! It will nearly exhaust several natural resources. I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that would honor and glorify me.
The man thought about it for a long time. Finally, it came to him.
"Lord," he said, "I wish that I could understand my wife. I want to know how she feels inside, what she's thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing's wrong, and how I can make a woman truly happy."
And the Lord replied: "You want two lanes on that bridge, or four?"

Wal-Mart Greeters

Two elderly Wal-Mart greeters were sitting on a bench during break time and one turns to the other saying,

"Slim, I'm 73 years old and I'm just full of aches and pains. I know you're about my age. How do you
feel?"
Slim says, "I feel just like a new born babe."
Rather amazed Slim's coworker repeats his statement back in the form of a question,

 "Really? A new born babe???"
"Yup", grins Slim, “No teeth, No hair, and I think I just wet my pants.”

Thirteen

A young man was strolling down a street in south London. As he passed a large building with a fence around it, he heard a group of people chanting "Thirteen, thirteen, thirteen" over and over again.

Curious, he tried to see over the fence, but couldn't. Then he spotted a knot in the wood, and put his eye to the hole.
He just managed to spy some old people sitting in deckchairs chanting, before a finger came out of nowhere and poked him in the eye. As he staggered back, the old people started chanting, "Fourteen, fourteen, fourteen ..."

Doctor's Poker Game

A well respected surgeon was relaxing on his sofa one evening just after arriving home from work. As he was tuning into the evening news, the phone rang. The doctor calmly answered it and heard the familiar voice of a colleague on the other end of the line.

"We need a fourth for poker," said the friend.

"I'll be right over," whispered the doctor.

As he was putting on his coat, his wife asked, "Is it serious?"

"Oh yes, quite serious," said the doctor gravely. "In fact, three doctors are there already!"
