St. Ignatius Prayer for Generosity

Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous. Teach me to serve You as You deserve; To give and not to count the cost; To fight and not to heed the wounds;

To toil and not to seek for rest; To labor and not to ask reward. Save that of knowing that I do your will, my God.

GRAND KNIGHT'S COLUMN

Brother Knights,

Due to an unexpected illness my column this month is going to be very brief. I appreciate the attendance at the meetings lately. This is really starting to become an active council that is doing a lot of good. As most of you may know we lost a very special member recently, Gary Roettger, he was very active in the home association as well as a team captain among other things. We will be trying to have a rosary this month for his family and for Bill Douglas's family. Bill lost his mom the same time that Gary left us. If for some reason we do not have one of the family's show up this month we will have another rosary the following month.

Fraternally,

Randy Leitman, G.K.

MINUTES FROM COUNCIL MEETING

As recorded by Chris Metze:

Prior to to beginning of the regular meeting, Allen Shroyer from A.G. Edwards joined us for dinner and then spoke to us on the A.G. Edwards mission to provide personalized attention to each customer need.  He also spoke of several options on how to safely invest monies to get us the best return.  His presentation was very interesting and informative.

The regular meeting was opened at 7:15 p.m with the opening prayer, pledge of allegiance, and the reading of the minutes from the last meeting.

The Grand Knight read communications whick included "thank you's" from the clergy for their Christmas gifts, St. Vincent DePaul for our donation, Sister Jeanette for our donation to the school tuition assistance, and from Teddi Michler for sending her daughter to camp.

Rob Kroupa provided a variety of food to be evaluated at dinner time.  The outcome as follows:  The macaroni and cheese will replace the potato salad. The new spaghetti sauce will replace the marinara sauce. The creamy cole slaw will replace the old type. The green beans were voted out.  The traditional fish breading will be retained. After weighing the pros and cons the fish fry committee decided to keep the price of the meal at $7.50.

The after dinner dessert of cherry cobbler and gooey butter cake was provided by Judy Armistead.

Mike Flynn has re-activated the adopt-a-highway program.  The next trash pickup is scheduled for March 4.  All participants are to meet at highway U at 8:30 a.m. A lunch will be provided afterwards.

The Roettger family is in need of help to provide Gary with transportation to and from his cancer treatments in Wentzville.  Please make contact if you are able to help. Prayers were offered for Gary Roettger and all the sick and distressed of our council.

The meeting was closed at 8:40 p.m.

FINANCIAL SECRETARY'S COLUMN

By Jason Bolte:

As of the time I am writing this I am in the process of getting second notices out. Next month I intend to publish all the people that I have bad addresses on. That way if you know them and can provide a current address on them we can possibly get our records squared away. On that note if you move or change your number please let me know so that I can keep our records up to date. We are also going to attempt to have a first degree at the April meeting. I need to get together with the degree team before then to go over the new degree. If you are interested in joining the degree team please let Randy or myself know we could use a few more people on this team that way if someone can not make a degree w have a backup. Also if you know of anyone interested in joining please come to this month's meeting and let us know so that we can approve them. Also as promised the revised team list is attached to this month's newsletter if for some reason your name is not on the list please call and let me know. That's all I have for this month.

Fraternally yours,

Jason Bolte

MINUTES FROM HOME ASSOCIATION MEETINGS

As recorded by Paul Orf:

Steve Schniedermeyer will be trying to fill Gary's shoes as Treasurer. It was discussed that the council will be possibly hooking into the new subdivision's water and sewer lines. Also it was decided that Jason Bolte and Lifard Mennemeyer would be joining the association as voting members until the elections will be held later this year. Lifard was a past member of the home association and Jason is at every meeting anyway.

LECTURER'S COLUMN

By Dr. John C. Soucy, Jr., M.D.:

Pope Paul VI sensed a “crisis of faith” in the Church. These were doubts about what was meant by the “real presence” of Christ. The following paragraph is from his encyclical “The Mystery of Faith” page 18:

This presence is called “real” by which it is not intended to exclude all other types of presence in the fullest sense: that is to say, it is a substantial presence by which Christ, the God-Man, is wholly and entirely present. It would therefore be wrong to explain this presence by having recourse to the “spiritual” nature, as it is called, of the glorified Body of Christ, which is present everywhere, or by reducing it to a kind of symbolism, as if this most august Sacrament consisted of nothing else than an efficacious sign, “of the spiritual presence of Christ and of His intimate union with the faithful members of His Mystical Body.”

This encyclical is only 29 pages and well worth reading.

UPCOMING EVENTS

The Lenten Fish Fry's will begin the first week of March. This is one of our biggest fundraisers, and an annual event that our community has come to depend on. Please do your best to arrange your schedule to make available as much time as possible. Regardless if you are currently assigned to a work crew or not, or if your crew is scheduled to work or not, please come out to help as often as possible. And when your crew is scheduled to work, please allow time for prep, serve and cleanup when possible. In order to make this a continuing success we need “all hands on deck”. Thank you for your efforts.

There will be a horseshoe meeting on Wednesday March 15 at 7:30 to discuss team creation and league rules for the upcoming season. Please come out if you plan on playing this season.

THE LADIES AUXILIARY COLUMN

Nothing received to report. The only thing that I a aware of is that they won the Lincoln County Wellness drawing and got the $5000 room makeover which will likely be discussed at the next meeting. All ladies who have a husband in the council are welcome to join.

OUR NEXT MEETING IS TUESDAY MARCH 14 th AT 7:30

Some Good Clean Fun:

New Drive-thru

The elderly priest, speaking to the younger priest, said, "It was a good idea to replace the first four rows of pews with plush bucket theater seats. It worked like a charm. The front of the church always fills first now."

The young priest nodded, and the old priest continued, "And you told me a little more beat to the music would bring young people back to the church, so I supported you when you brought in that rock 'n roll gospel choir. We are packed to the balcony!!"

"Thank you, Father," answered the young priest. "I am pleased that you are open to the new ideas of youth."

"However," said the elderly priest, "I'm afraid you've gone too far with the drive-thru confessional."

"But, Father," protested the young priest, "my confessions and the

donations have nearly doubled since I began that!" "I know, son, but that flashing neon sign, Toot 'n Tell or Go To Hell, just can't stay on the church roof!"

The Irishman

An Irishman walks into a bar and orders three glasses of Guiness, drinking them one at a time. Noticing this odd ritual, the bartender explains that the beer goes flat when poured and informs the man his beer would be much fresher if he ordered one glass at a time.
The Irishman explains he began this custom with his two brothers, who have moved to America and Australia, respectively. This is their way of remembering all the time they spent drinking together.
The man becomes a regular at the pub, well-known for always ordering three beers at once. One day he walks in and orders only two beers. Assuming the worst, a hush falls among other patrons.
When the Irishman returns to the bar to order his second round, the bartender quietly offers his condolences. The man looks confused for a moment, and then explains, "No, everyone's fine. I gave up beer for lent."

Stay...

I pulled into the crowded parking lot at the Super Wal-Mart Shopping Center and rolled down the car windows to make sure my Labrador Retriever Pup had fresh air.

She was stretched full-out on the back seat and I wanted to impress upon her that she must remain there. I walked to the curb backward, pointing my finger at the car and saying emphatically, "Now you stay. Do you hear me?" "Stay! Stay!"

The driver of a nearby car, a pretty blonde young lady, gave me a strange look and said,

"Why don't you just put it in park?"

The Senior Citizens Bus Trip

A tour bus driver is driving with a bus load of seniors down a highway when he is tapped on his shoulder by a little old lady.

She offers him a handful of peanuts, which he gratefully munches up.

After about 15 minutes, she taps him on his shoulder again and she hands him another handful of peanuts. She repeats this gesture about five more times.

When she is about to hand him another batch he asks the little old lady why they don't eat the peanuts themselves. "We can't chew them because we've no teeth", she replied.

The puzzled driver asks, "Why do you buy them then?"

The old lady replied, "We just love the chocolate around them."
