KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SACRED HEART COUNCIL 6525 NEWSLETTER |
Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous. Teach me to serve You as You deserve; To give and not to count the cost; To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest; To labor and not to ask reward. Save that of knowing that I do your will, my God.
Brother Knights,
Here we are again, at the beginning of a new fraternal year. Can you believe it? Where does the time go, and how can it go so fast?
Anyway, I would first like to thank, and congratulate all the officers chosen for this term. Most of them are all re-elected to their position. They are as follows:
Grand Knight Randy Leitman Inside Guard Bob Rattini
Deputy G.K. Jim Volmert Outside Guard Joe Horvat
Chancellor Bob Krankel 3 Year Trustee Chad Simpson
Recorder Chris Metze 2 Year Trustee Bob Kroupa
Treasurer Dave Mennemeyer 1 Year Trustee Darrell Harke
Warden Trevor Mack Advocate Ed Grewach
Thank you all for accepting the duties and responsibilities of your office, and for supporting our Council by the same.
There is not a lot in the way of topics for the meeting, July 30, 2006 will be the next communion mass, and breakfast. If I can pull it together by then, and clear it with Father Tom, I would like to try to have all of our members join in the entrance procession at the beginning of mass. I am not sure how to get all of us to our seats in an organized manner, unless we all sit in the reserved sections which we always set up. More at the meeting.
One other item for thought that came to me at the Chapel last night is to possibly have an “Open-House” night at the hall, where we would possibly serve hamburgers, hotdogs, popcorn soda, and beer?. Invite all members and families, and members of the Parish, especially prospective members. Do this late fall, early winter, on a Sunday evening. The purpose would be to educate more people on what the Knights of Columbus is, and some of the history of the order.
Supreme has several videos (free of charge), for this purpose. Possibly one T.V. set up for kids movies, and the other set up for the adults. I'll elaborate at the meeting.
I have failed to contact anyone concerning first degree rehearsal since last month, so if you would like to assist on the degree team, call me, because we will get together before the August meeting, since that is when we intend to have our next degree.
Hope to see you at the meeting!
Fraternally, Randy Leitman Grand Knight 356-4811
The evening began with the traditional meal, before beginning the business meeting, and was enjoyed by all. The meeting was brought to order at 7:00pm with the opening prayer, pledge of allegiance, and the singing of the opening ode. The roll call of officers was then taken and the minutes of the last meeting read.
GRAND KNIGHT'S REPORT:
Mike Flynn needs to be contacted to see where we stand on the ball diamond sign advertisements. It was noted that additional time should be given sponsors whose signs were not displayed in a timely manner.
More members need to get involved with our first degree ceremonial team and practice to make our performance more impressive to new members.
Bob Krankel was selected for knight of the month along with Jack and Tracy Wilke for family of the month. All three individuals do alot of work for the council.
FINANCIAL SECRETARY REPORT:
Jason Bolte brought attention to the fact that about 75 members are delinquent in paying their dues. A long discussion was held on ways to lower that number.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
The Adopt-a-highway program has been dormant since Mike Flynn is employed out of town. Brother Jim Wallace has volunteered to chair this project and maybe get some other organizations involved.
HOME ASSOCIATION:
Paul Orf reported business as usual. A lot of bills being paid twice monthly.
NEW BUSINESS:
GK Randy Leitman announced the new guidlines for being a member of the home association. Being a member of the council for 3 years and being a third degree knight is required. A member must attend one of the two scheduled meetings every month and at least one council meeting quarterly. If you meet the criteria and are interested, please contact John Boland of the home association.
Election of officers for the new fraternal year was held. The slate of officers nominated at the May meeting was accepted and voted in by acclamation.
The District Deputy installed the new officers after the election.
FIELD AGENT'S REPORT:
It was reported that 47 members of the order had died the night before. If you had been one of these members would your family have been protected? If not, consider contacting C. J. Brown for your insurance needs.
DISTRICT DEPUTY REPORT:
It was reported that the Marriage Protection Amendment failed in the senate with the votes of 48 yes and 49 no. The reason it did not pass was that some senators felt that each state shold make their own decision and the the US constitution should not be amended. There will be future attempts to vote on this issue.
LECTOR'S REPORT
Dr. Soucy reported that the protestand community misunderstands the catholic dogma of papal infallability. Some feel thatit means that the pope can do anything he wants and not be held accountable. Not so. His infallability is restricted to matters of faith only. Please try to explain this if you are challenged.
Prayers were offered for the sick. Judy Armistead and Jim Volmert will be remembered in prayer for their upcoming surgeries.
The closing ode was sung and the meeting was adjourned at 8:20pm
THE NEXT MEETING IS THURSDAY JULY 20, 2006
By Jason Bolte:
Well since my last report I have been unable to get caught up on things that I said I would do last month and am still trying to do those things. I have had some obstacles including tearing the ligaments in my right ankle. I still intend to get caught up but have realized that I have probably bitten off a little more than I can chew. If someone would like to assist me and take some of my responsibilities I would be glad to assist them and would appreciate it greatly. You could take over production of this newsletter, or be the team captain of Team 3 or help with any of the other many things that I have been doing as of late. Please call me if you have any extra time that you would like to put towards the council. I am not complaining but feel that I am not living up to expectations with all these things that I do. I will continue to serve you to the best of my ability please call if I can be of assistance.
Fraternally yours,
Jason Bolte

This month's submission from Dr. John Soucy:
Prayer of St. Anselm
Teach me to seek YouAnd reveal Yourself to me as I seek
For unless You instruct me
I can not seek You
And unless You reveal Yourself
I cannot find You
Let me seek You in desiring You
Let me desire you in seeking You
Let me find You in loving You
Let me love You in finding You.
KNIGHT OF THE MONTH
Fairly new to Council 6525, but not new to the Knights is our May Knight of the Month, CJ Brown. CJ joined the Knights in 1983. His past accomplishments include Past Grand Knight, Past Faithful Navigator, Numerous chairs on committees and a major influence for the Squires in his past council. CJ feels that involvement in the youth programs is necessary, not only from the Knights, but the entire Parish community. Recently, CJ has become a Field Agent for the Knights in this area, allowing him a more stable involvement with the Knights and his family. CJ should also be recognized for his diligence in bringing new members to our Council. At the last 1 st Degree, he brought five new members and has at least five more lined up for the next 1 st Degree. Thanks and Congratulations to CJ on being May Knight of the Month!
A familiar face and ever-helpful member is the Knight of the Month for June. Bob Krankel, our Chancellor by title and Jack-of-all-Trades when it comes to needing a hand around the Hall. Bob was one of the founding members of our Council, joining the Knights back in 1964. In his 42 years of service, I think we are fair to say that he has done it all and continues to do many tasks. Whether it is taking care of the concession stand, opening the hall for an event, horseshoes, and the list goes on and on, Bob gives his all to our Council. A heartfelt thanks you to Bob (and we can't forget Marilyn) for June's Knight of the Month!
May's Family of the Month goes to a very deserving couple, Marvin and Judy Armistead. Marvin joined the Knights in 1980. During the past 26 years, Marvin has served the Knights in many capacities, from Grand Knight of the O'Fallon Council, to his current position as the District Deputy; Marvin is constantly providing his knowledge and faith to the Knights. Marvin not only serves in the capacity as a State Officer, but is deeply involved in Degree Ceremonies, helping to instruct our fellow Knights on our Order as they progress on to the Fourth Degree. As we all know though, behind every good Knight, is a Great Woman. Judy, we can't thank you enough for the countless meals, desserts, and time you have spent in the kitchen making sure that we don't go hungry at our meetings. We all know that you are a vital asset to Marvin with the amount of time that he devotes to the Knights. A big hand to our May family of the Month, Marvin and Judy Armistead.
Now to one of our newer families, at least with the company that they are included with, Jack and Tracy Wilke. Jack has served the Knights diligently over the past five plus years and has served as a Trustee and has assisted in many capacities to our Officers. Both Jack and Tracy worked hard with the Night at the Races and with our Horseshoe committee during the spring and summer. Even with all of this hard work, they still find time to spend with their children and home. Thank you again for your hard work and dedication to the Council. Congratulations to our June Family of the Month. Jack and Tracy Wilke!
We are getting into the wedding season as well as the softball and horseshoe season. Please keep watching the schedule for when you are scheduled to work. One other thing to keep in mind is the Annual Night at the Races.
