GRAND KNIGHT'S COLUMN

Brother Knights,

Welcome to a brand new year. I hope that together, we can make this a more prosperous and enriching year for our Council, Church and Community. There are a ton of programs and activities that the Knights can participate either through those suggested by Supreme, or the ones that we ourselves take on based on the needs of those around us in our own families, Church, and Community. The main principle of this order is CHARITY, combined with UNITY, FRATERNITY, and PATRIOTISM, clearly states that we as Catholic gentlemen, and brothers in the Knights of Columbus should work together to assist those less fortunate than ourselves, and help to spread the teachings of Christ.

I hope that we will be able to not only continue to do the things we already do, but to take on a couple more challenges as well. All we need is more participation and cooperation from everyone.

If you have not heard, the January meeting will be on Wednesday the 18th, due to the fact that several of our members will be leaving for the White House retreat on Thursday. We also voted, that any year in the future where retreat weekend clashes with meeting night, the meeting will be the Wednesday before.

At the meeting we will have some special guests from Todd Mack's family, as well as from Pete Hemmer's family as we offer a Rosary for Todd's Stepfather, and for Pete. We also hope to have Teddi Michler with us to present her with a donation to Wonderland Camp where her daughter Michelle attends annually. This donation is from the M.R. drive held in October.

Hope you can attend the meeting. We plan to set a date for our Appreciation Dinner, vote on some donations to be made through the recommendations of the charitable works committee, and start the countdown to the first fry of Lent, which is March 3, 2006.

Fraternally,

Randy Leitman, G.K.

MINUTES FROM THE DECEMBER COUNCIL MEETING

As recorded by Chris Metze:

  • Meeting was opened at 7:00pm
  • Opening prayer and pledge of allegiance
  • Roll call of officers and minutes read from last meeting
  • Grand Knights report called for the finishing of the Sacred Heart church sign on

the north side of Troy with Mass information for south bound traffic.  This project

has been in idle for quite some time.

  • Todd Mack called for council suggestions on charity distrubition.  Todd was very

busy the month of December with the death of his step father and numerous work

projects.  He didnt get the committee together that was voted on at the November

meeting.  After a lengthy discussion of different charities and various suggested

amounts,  it was decided that Todd should get the committee together and bring

a list to the January meeting to be voted upon.

  • Todd Mack made a motion that the council pay for 2 new participants to the

White House retreat in January.  The motion passed and the payment for 2

will be 520.00.

  • Since the 3rd Thursday council meeting conflicts with the starting of the White

House Retreat on January 19, it was voted and approved that the January meeting

be held on January 18.

  • A special thank you to Kurt Wingert for preparing the chili, Ed Toth for helping

with the salad, and Judy Armistead for the peach cobbler.  The meal was enjoyed

by all.  The money left over after meal expense was given to the Home association.

  • Todd Macks family will be invited to the January meeting for dinner and a rosary

prayed , afterwards,  for his stepfather.

  • Brother Gary Roettger remembered in closing prayer
  • Meeting adjourned.

THE NEXT MEETING IS WEDNESDAY JANUARY 18 th

FINANCIAL SECRETARY'S COLUMN

By Jason Bolte:

Greetings brothers as I begin this year I am finding that there are still some loose ends that I need to learn to allow my job to go smoothly. I do apologize that dues notices did not get sooner than they did but I am learning as I go and should have this process completely figured out by the end of this year's cycle. As I stated before I appreciate everyone who paid their dues ahead of time as it did make for less envelopes to stuff which was a task in and of itself. Those of you that have paid will receive their card at the next meeting and if for some reason you cannot attend the meeting I will mail the card to you after that meeting. I still have a few projects after this to complete. One is the ongoing project of getting the records updated. This has been a daunting task and I would ask that if you could find the time to please call me so that I have current information on you. Another project that I am working on is getting everyone assigned to a work crew. This should be completed by next month's newsletter (team captains please leave a night open that we can get together and go over this I will call you to set up that meeting). Finally, the photo directory is going to be back on track as Larry Fague will be at this month's meeting and next month's meeting to get you picture taken for the directory. Even if you do not want your picture in the directory please try and make to one of the next two meetings to at least update your information. On a side note About two month's ago when we did our membership drive we had a member reactivate and I do not have any information on him to get him back on record. That member is Roger Tiesing if anyone knows this brother and has a way of getting in touch with him please let me know or have him call me so that we can get him squared away. As always if there is anything that I can do to assist you please do not hesitate to call me. 636-366-4969 home, 636-262-9642 cell, or you can e-mail me at jb0819@yahoo.com .

LECTURER'S COLUMN

By Dr. John C. Soucy, Jr., M.D.:

Prayer of Thomas Merton

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will, does not mean that I am actually doing so.

But I believe that the desire to please you does-in-fact-please you. And I hope that I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.

And I know that if I do this, you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefore, I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

KNIGHT OF THE MONTH

December's Knight of the Month is Dr. John “Doc” Soucy. While attending the University of Notre Dame in 1955, John Soucy made a decision to commit more of his time in service to God and the community by joining the Knights of Columbus. The Knights has been a means that allowed John to instruct his fellow members in the capacity of Lecturer and help instruct and answer questions his brothers brought to him on the secular world. A challenge that Dr. Soucy sees for us as Knights in the future is to better live the life that we profess, along with more devotion to the Blessed Sacrament in our ever-changing world. Thank you now and in the future to Dr. Soucy for bringing us closer to our faith. Congratulations Dr. John Soucy!

FAMILY OF THE MONTH

Our family of the month for December is a true “team” effort for our Council. Todd Mack joined the Knights in 1996. Once his soon was 18, Trevor joined in 2002. Todd and Trevor, along with Todd's wife Brenda who recently joined the Ladies Auxiliary and their daughter Kayla, are constantly taking on projects within our Council. In the past, this family has been a key in Highway Cleanup, weddings, and other activities. A more recent success that they have brought to our Council is the Night at the Races, which has been a huge undertaking. Along with Council activities, Todd and Brenda recently celebrated their 25 th wedding anniversary. Congratulations to Todd, Brenda, Trevor and Kayla for the December Family of the Month!

Some Good Clean Fun:

WHO DOES WHAT A man and his wife were having an argument about who should brew the coffee each morning. The wife said, "You should do it, because you get up first, and then we don't have to wait as long to get our coffee." The husband said, " You are in charge of cooking around here and you should do it, because that is your job, and I can just wait for my coffee." Wife replies, "No, you should do it, and besides, it is in the Bible that the man should do the coffee." Husband replies, "I can't believe that, show me." So she fetched the Bible, and opened the New Testament and showed him at the top of several pages, that it indeed says . . . . "HEBREWS"

CREATION A man said to his wife one day, "I don't know how you can be so stupid and so beautiful all at the same time. " The wife responded, "Allow me to explain. God made me beautiful so you would be attracted to me; God made me stupid so I would be attracted to you!”
