GRAND KNIGHT’S COLUMN

Brother Knights,

Welcome once again, the will be our final newsletter for 2005. This time of year becomes extremely busy for all of us with the parties, the celebrating and the shopping. With as fun as this is, and the work we put ourselves through to attend all the functions possible, I hope to see quite a few of you at the meeting Dec. 15. I was very happy to see the wonderful crowd that attended the annual Christmas party, I trust that everyone enjoyed the evening, as I know that I did. As we put ourselves through the usual "man-made" rigors of this season, I hope and pray that we do not lose focus on the real Meaning of CHRIST-mas. Let us remember the one who came to earth to save man from himself on this special day and enstilled the spirit of giving, rather than getting or doing.

I am sure most of you have heard the controversy of the large department stores, and other entities in our world who are making a silent, slow, yet effective stab at removing Christ from Christmas. Everything is now a "HOLIDAY" sale, and the general greeting is "HAPPY HOLIDAYS". I challenge all of you, as Knights of Columbus, to do your part to confront this tragedy simply by making every effort to respond or greet everyone with "MERRY CHRISTMAS" let them know you have a faith, that you believe in it, and that you are proud of it. Teach your children as well. We who wear the titlle of Knight, have an obligation to stand up for our Church and proclaim our belief.

Another issue to be very careful with is the Stem-cell research issue. I have been watching and listening to the campaign for this on the news, and in some cases the

broadcastors try to slam the church by making you believe we are against this research completely. What they leave out is "EMBRIONIC" Stem-Cell Research.

This one word puts the issue in a whole new light. These researcher are looking for permission to create a life for the sole purpose to destroy it in the name of Humanity. Kind of an oxy-moron don't you agree. So I urge you to pay very close attention to what is said concerning this issue and to stand by your faith and belief as a Catholic to do what is right.

Hope to see you at the meeting, it has been a wonderful year, I wish everyone a safe and MERRY CHRIST-MAS SEASON.

Fraternally,

Randy Leitman, G.K.

LETTERS TO THE EDITORS

From Mike Flynn:

My Brother Knights

As you are all aware from last month's newsletter, our Financial Secretary has brought charges against me for misconduct and behaviors unbecoming of a Knight of Columbus. The council officers and I have met together, along with the State Deputy, to resolve this issue. During the process, it was brought to my attention that certain actions of mine have been deemed, by a few members of our council, as unacceptable. For this I offer my heartfelt apology.

The betterment of our council, through civic and church activities, has always been paramount in my mind. Sometimes, I may have gotten carried away with my actions, but it has always been for what I perceived as being for the betterment of the council, and in the better interest of my brother knights.

I understand, and recognize, I have offended some of our membership, and for that, again, I offer my sincere apology.

It is my hope and prayer that we can work together in continuing God's work together through our actions.

Vivat Jesus,

Mike Flynn

FINANCIAL SECRETARY'S COLUMN

By Jason Bolte:

What a busy time this has been as I am sure it is for you as well. As I write this column I realize there is roughly two weeks until Christmas and the publication of the newsletter snuck up on me without realizing it. I have gotten dues notices printed up and am in the process between remodeling my house and other holiday activities of folding them and getting them out to you. Thanks to all who have paid their dues up to this point as it does make it easier for me to do my job. I have conducted an audit on the council membership records and have sent out updates on approximately 60 members either address changes or other information that needed updating. There are still quite a few members that I do not have good addresses on and plan on naming those individuals at the next council meeting as well as the next newsletter upon approval. I do not want to lose touch with anyone. Another thing that I am trying to do is get everyone assigned to a work team so that all can be included in the good work that we do. We likely have room for a new team to be formed and there are some team captains that would like to step down from their position so if there is anyone interested in being a team captain let me know. I can tell you that it is not that difficult of a job as it mostly consists of making phone calls to make sure that the events that your team is scheduled for is staffed.

The next two meetings will be an opportunity for you to help us in publishing a Knights directory for our council. As of my last audit there were over 200 members in our council and I know that I do not know all of them by face. Which is why we are putting together a photo directory for our members so that we can all get to know each other. If for some reason you can not make either this month's meeting or next month's meeting Please let me know so that we can make other arrangements to have your picture taken. I would like to get as many of the member's pictures in the directory if not all of them published.

That is all the information I have for you at this time. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call me anytime. Home 636-366-4969…Cell 636-262-9642…Work 314-206-5109

THE LADIES AUXILIARY COLUMN

Maria Schieffer called the Ladies Auxilary meeting to order on November 8, 2005. 13 members and 3 officers were present. Glenda M. read last month's minutes with Barb S. moving to approve the minutes and Glenda D. second them. Vicki presented the Treasurer's report with Rosemary making a motion to approve the report and Mary Z. second it.

Correspondence:

We received a thank you card from Sally Creech representing the St. Vincent DePaul Society and received a request from the Linc, asking for a donation.

Unfinished Business:

The ladies voted on the dinner for the Christmas party, and final prices were reviewed. We will order a cheese and fruit tray from Wal-Mart to serve as appetizers. The buffet will cost $6.00/person and an additional $1.00/person for dessert. The menu will be: Caesar salad, Italian pasta with vegetables, au gratin potatoes, stuffed pork loin, chicken cordon bleu, winter mix vegetables with cheese, green beans, rolls, and assorted desserts. Happy hour begins at 6:00 pm and dinner will be served at 6:30 on Tuesday,

December 13. We will have a $5 gift exchange and a 50/50 drawing.

Maria spoke to Jean Eberhard in regards to Adopting Families for Christmas this year. We will adopt three single mothers who have children. The details are being sent to Maria in the mail. After discussion, Brenda made a motion to spend about $75/person and Sharon B. second it. Maria Schieffer, Glenda D., Jill R. and Glenda M. volunteered to go shop for the families and also for attendance gifts for the Christmas party.

New Business:

Barb M. made a motion to donate $250 to the Linc and Brenda M. second it.

An announcement was made to please let food cool after serving weddings/events before putting leftovers in the refrigerator. (If they do not cool properly the temperature goes down in the refrigerator and makes the food unsafe to eat.)

It was also asked that if a table is already decorated for a wedding, please do not move the tables. Please inform the Friday crew to put plastic on cake tables and buffet tables so decorating can resume at the time needed.

The K.C. hall will have their annual dinner for people who are developmentally delayed on December 4. We ask that the ladies volunteer to make pumpkin pies-25 pies are needed.

It was also noted that we are in need of more Ladies Auxilary Shirts to be worn to serve. Margie M. made a motion to order more and Brenda M. second the motion.

Glenda Muldoon won the $14 kitty.

Tracy made a motion to adjourn the meeting, and Jill second it. We were also reminded that the Christmas party will be taking the place of the December meeting, and there will be no meeting in January.

Maria Schieffer led the closing prayer and Larry Fague from Fague Photography took individual pictures of the members and officers who were present.

Respectfully Submitted,

Glenda Muldoon

KNIGHT OF THE MONTH

Joe Martin, Joe joined the Knights in 1993, and has been a very positive and faithful member ever since. He is always helping around the Church, is very commited to his Catholic faith. Joe also has been quite helpful around the Hall as well, helping the Ladies with meal peparation, and making little adornments for our hall, to either help us keep track of what is going on, or simply to decorate and publicise what we have done or have been doing. I for one am Proud to refer to Joe as Brother Knight, and Friend. Congradulations Joe.

FAMILY OF THE MONTH

If you don't know Bob, you should, Bob has been a member since 1964, and is one of the Charter members of Council 6525. He has diligently served the Knights for these 41 years with heartfelt commitment that continues today. He has Chaired a multitude of functions over the years, has served the home association for quite some time, and has done his best to keep the grounds and concession stand in order during the ball season. Marilyn also has done more than her share as well, decorating church, assisting at the hall, working with St. Vincent DePaul's society, a member of the pray chain, (and putting up with Bob: HA HA ). One could go on for quite a while here, but I think you get the picture, of two very prime examples of what Catholics and Knights should be. We are glad and Proud to have you both with us.

Food for Thought: (Author Unknown)

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the town

Not a sign of Baby Jesus was anywhere to be found.

The people were all busy with Christmas time chores

Like decorating, and baking, and shopping in stores.

No one sang "Away in a manger, no crib for a bed".

Instead, they sang of Santa dressed-up in bright red.

Mama watched Martha Stewart, Papa drank beer from a tap.

As hour upon hour the presents they'd wrap

When what from the TV did they suddenly hear?

'Cept an ad.. which told of a big sale at Sears.

So away to the mall they all flew like a flash...

Buying things on credit...and others with cash!

And, as they made their way home from their trip to the mall,

Did they think about Jesus? Oh, no... not at all.

Their lives were so busy with their Christmas time things

No time to remember Christ Jesus, the King.

There were presents to wrap and cookies to bake.

How could they stop and remember who died for their sake?

To pray to the Savior...they had no time to stop.

Because they needed more time to "Shop ‘til they dropped!"

On Wal-Mart! On K-mart! On Target! On Penney's!

On Hallmark! On Zales! A quick lunch at Denny's

From the big stores downtown to the stores at the mall

They would dash away, dash away, and visit them all!

And up on the roof, there arose such a clatter

As grandpa hung icicle lights up on his brand new stepladder.

He hung lights that would flash. He hung lights that would twirl.

Yet, he never once prayed to Jesus...Light of the World.

Christ's eyes... how they twinkle! Christ's Spirit... how merry!

Christ's love... how enormous! All our burdens... He'll carry!

So instead of being busy, overworked, and uptight

Let's put Christ back in Christmas and enjoy some good nights!

Merry Christmas, my friends!

Some Good Clean Fun:

REVELATION 3:20

A new pastor was visiting in the homes of his parishioners. At one house it seemed obvious that someone was at home, but no answer came to his repeated knocks at the door. Therefore, he took out a card and wrote:  "Revelation 3:20" on the back of it and stuck it in the door.

When the offering was processed the following Sunday, he found that his card had been returned. Added to it was this cryptic message: "Genesis 3:10."

Reaching for his Bible to check out the citation, he broke up in gales of laughter.
Revelation 3.20 begins "Behold, I stand at the door and knock."
Genesis 3.10 reads, "I heard your voice in the garden and I was afraid for I was naked."
Remember when the funniest jokes were the clean ones? They still are!
"A cheerful heart is good medicine" (Prov. 17:22a)
