KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SACRED HEART COUNCIL 6525 NEWSLETTER |
Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous. Teach me to serve You as You deserve; To give and not to count the cost; To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest; To labor and not to ask reward. Save that of knowing that I do your will, my God.
Here it is August already, can you believe it? I hope that the past few weeks have been hot enough for everyone. (Ha-ha). What I truly hope and pray is that those of you that can not withstand the heat and humidity that we have been experiencing, have found some reprieve, or escape from it.
We had a good meting last month, and I was glad to see the number of people attend that did. We always seem to fall short on attendance during the summer do to vacations and such.
This month we have plans for a first degree at the meeting to welcome some more new members to our council, and a sizable crowd reflects interest and support in the eyes of the newcomers, so I hope many of you can attend.
I want to thank team eight for doing what they could, and not giving up completely on our fifth Sunday breakfast. They came in to cook, and there was no gas to cook with, so we had a nice snack of coffee, milk juice and doughnuts. Thanks for the effort team eight.
In closing, the Charity/Finance committee has a few recommendations for us, and a few ideas to share at the meeting. So please pay attention at the meeting as they make their proposal.
Short and Sweet,
Fraternally, Randy Leitman Grand Knight 356-4811
The evening began with a barbeque dinner with all the trimmings.
The business meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm with opening prayer, pledge
of allegiance, roll call of officers, and the singing of the opening ode. The minutes
of the last meeting were then read.
GRAND KNIGHT'S REPORT
Justin Niehoff was chosen as knight of the month ad Bob and Peggy Ratini as
family of the month. All three have a lot of involvement with council activities.
A first degree will be held at the August 17 meeting. The degree team will meet
two times to practice beforehand.
To get the word out of Knights of Columbus's accomplishments, we should consider
having an open house servings something simple such as hamburgers, hot dogs,
soft drinks, etc. Several knights should be present to answer any questions and
pass out membership materials.
Jim Green, state chairman of the squires and Columbus girls, was invited to speak
of his mission to establish more circles and perhaps to re-activate ours. He made himself available to help in any way he can.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
HOME ASSOCIATION
An A/C unit was recently replaced. This along with some other bills totaled over
$8,000 in payouts at the last meeting,
ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY
The committee has made the decision to have only 2 scheduled days of trash
pickup each year, one in the spring and one in the fall, to avoid the hot and cold
weather.
CHARITY AND FINANCE
The committee was scheduled to meet on July 27 to make decisions on charity
disbursements and how to invest funds.
NIGHT AT THE RACES
With the month of October rapidly approaching, the racing committee will soon be taking the necessary actions to make this third annual event a success.
FIELD AGENT'S REPORT
With the passing of FN Mike Eilers, a member that was not covered with enough
insurance to protect his family, an important lesson has been taught.
DISTRICT DEPUTY REPORT
Major degrees will begin in September. The Grand Knight with receive dates
by mail. Several candidates from other councils are tentatively scheduled to
participate in our first degree on August 17.
WORDS FROM DR. SOUCY
Which came first the Bible or the church? This is an ongoing controversy with
protestants and Catholics. The Catholic Church comes to us from the apostles
which has been handed down through the centuries by sacred tradition many
years before the bible was ever written. Instructional CD'S were passed out to
the members explaining, in detail, "Which came first?"
Prayers were offered for the sick and those undergoing surgery. The closing ode
was sung and the meeting was adjourned at 8:25 pm.
THE NEXT MEETING IS THURSDAY JULY 20, 2006
By Jason Bolte:
I am finally close to being caught up. New members that are joining this month as well as the ones in April will be assigned to teams if they have not been already. I want to offer my apologies to those who joined back in April and have not gotten the attention they deserve to allow them to be active members. I have contacted the team captains and will have everyone assigned to teams shortly. On another positive note the number of unpaid members is down from last year. I have not had a chance as of yet to see which of the unpaid members are the same from last year and talk to the team captains about these members. If there is anything that I can do let me know.
Fraternally yours,
Jason Bolte

This month's submission from Dr. John Soucy:
Prayer of St. Anselm
Teach me to seek YouAnd reveal Yourself to me as I seek
For unless You instruct me
I can not seek You
And unless You reveal Yourself
I cannot find You
Let me seek You in desiring You
Let me desire you in seeking You
Let me find You in loving You
Let me love You in finding You.
KNIGHT OF THE MONTH
It is a pleasure to announce our Family of the Month for July, Bob and Peggy Rattini. Bob became a member of the Knights back in 1983 and has served in many capacities, including our current Inside Guard and the Chairman for the Roses for Life campaign. But we all know that Bob wouldn't be the Knight that he is without the help of his wife Peggy. Peggy, we could go on for hours for all that you do. Peggy keeps events coordinated between the Ladies and the Knights, making sure there are cooks and workers and allowing guests to enjoy their event. Along with this she is also very involved in the church, from Adoration to RCIA and all the things in between, Bless you for all you do! Congratulations and a big heart felt THANK YOU for all you do again! Bob and Peggy Rattini, your July Family of the Month.
Now on to our July Knight of the Month, Justin Niehoff. You could consider Justin to be one of the newer and younger members of our Council, the next generation of the Knights. This past April, Justin joined the highest ranks of our order in obtaining the 4 th Degree. Justin is also very involved in our Council. Helping out his Team and other members whenever he can. Justin can be found out with the Horseshoes on Wednesday, prepping and cooking during Lenten Fish Fries and always helping with weddings, what more could you ask for. Keep up the great work and thanks for all you do! Congratulations to our July Knight of the Month, Justin Niehoff.

Some Good Clean Fun
You may not know this but many nonliving things have a gender...
*Ziploc Bags are Male, because they hold everything in, but you can see right through them.
*Copiers are Female, because once turned off; it takes a while to warm them up again. It's an effective reproductive device if the right buttons are pushed, but can wreak havoc if the wrong buttons are pushed.
*A Tire is Male, because it goes bald and it's often over-inflated.
*A Hot Air Balloon is Male, because, to get it to go anywhere, you have to light a fire under it, and of course, there's the hot air part.
*Sponges are Female, because they're soft, squeezable and retain water.
*A Web Page is Female, because it's always getting hit on.
*A Subway is Male, because it uses the same old lines to pick people up.
*An Hourglass is Female, because over time, the weight shifts to the bottom.
*A Hammer is Male , because it hasn't changed much over the last 5,000 years, but it's handy to have around.
*A Remote Control is Female. Had you fooled! You thought it'd be male , didn't you? But consider this - it gives a man pleasure, he'd be lost without it, and while he doesn't always know the right buttons to push, he keeps trying!
