KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SACRED HEART COUNCIL 6525 NEWSLETTER |
Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous. Teach me to serve You as You deserve; To give and not to count the cost; To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest; To labor and not to ask reward. Save that of knowing that I do your will, my God.
Brother Knights:
Here we are once again getting ready to attend another meeting. And in preparation, I am trying to enlighten you, and encourage you to participate to your full ability in our Council, and it's activities. First off, I want to thank everyone who attended last month's meeting. It was quite lengthy with our meal, Rosary, first degree, and business meeting. Everything went off fairly smooth, and I wish to extend my appreciation to everyone for their cooperation and attention. I also want to congratulate the men who received the honor of First Degree last Month, Thomas Ragan, James Scott, Gregory Harris, Richard Mennemeyer, Eric Stonebarger, Alex Bolte, and Timothy Hamilton, who are joining our council, and 3 members from Warrenton. I hope that you all enjoy the Knights of Columbus, and grow in your faith as you live out the principles of the order CHARITY, UNITY, FRATERNITY, and PATRIOTISM.
Well, believe it or not, another fraternal; year is about to roll around, and you know what that means? Officer nominations, and elections. We will be taking nominations for officers at the May 18 meeting and electing in June. Any 3rd Degree member is eligible for office. Serving the Council, as an officer is not that terrible, the only suggestion I have is if you plan to serve, be serious about it, give it your best, and be responsible.
Please pay attention to the newsletter and try to be available when your team is scheduled. If you know someone who is not receiving their newsletter, contact Jason Bolte at 636-366-4969 to make sure we have current addresses.
Ball season is upon us once again, two and one-half weeks done and a bunch to go. If any member or team captain is scheduled to work a particular night and you are not sure if there will be games because of rain, CALL THE HALL AT 528-6476 AFTER 5:00 P.M.
Dave Mennemeyer has a recorded message that will say no games tonight. If you DO NOT hear these words, but instead hear to rent the K-C Hall, contact Dave Mennemeyer, then THERE WILL BE GAMES, and you should be there about 6:15 at the latest to set up.
Thanks for reading.
Fraternally, Randy Leitman Grand KnightThe evening began with having the Roettger and Fischer families for dinner and then praying the rosary for their deceased love ones. Thanks go to Randy Leitman, C. J. Brown and Marvin and Judy Armistead for preparing the meal.
The regular meeting began at 7:10 pm with the opening prayer and the pledge of allegiance. The gavel was then turned over to Darrell Harke for the exemplification of the first degree. The degree consisted of 7 candidates from 6525 and 3 from Warrenton council. This was the first time a first degree was held using the new degree format. There were many positive comments made regarding the changes in the degree. The meeting continued with the roll call or officers and reading of the minutes from the last meeting.
The Grand Knight made presentations for knight of the month and family of the month. He also thanked all the work teams and individuals who participated in working at the fish fries. A special thank you went to all the dedicated people that were present at all the fish fries to lend a helping hand.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Mike Flynn was not present to make his reports on ball diamond sign sales, and Adopt-a-highway activity.
Rob Kroupa reported fish fry revenue after expenses totaled approximately $6200.00. He wants to see some of the monies invested. The fish fry committee will be re-thinking menu options for next year.
Steve Schniedemeyer of the home association suggests that persons working the concession stands should pay for items they consume in order to keep profits at a desirable level.
Dr. John Soucy was absent but left some informational cassettes for distribution to the members.
NEW BUSINESS:
Jason Bolte made a request to the council to assist Miss Jennifer Sallwasser with her pursuing a religious vocation. After several minutes of discussion, Brother Jerry Zerrer made a motion to provide a $250.00 donation. A second to the motion was made by Brother Rich Mulcahy. The motion passed.
FIELD AGENT:
C. J. Brown welcomed the new members and encouraged them to consider all the reasonable K of C insurance products available to them.
DISTRICT DEPUTY:
Marvin Armistead welcomed the new members on behalf of the Missouri State Council and the Supreme Council in New Haven, Ct. The Supreme Council has initiated a postcard campaign supporting the "Marriage Protection Amendment" which will guarantee that only marriage between a man and woman will be recognized. Several hundred cards were given to the Grand Knight to give to the church director for possible distribution in church. All that has to be done is fill in the name of your senator, your name and address, affix a 24cent stamp, and drop in the mail box. The next meeting in Washington on this issue will be sometime in June.
A prayer was said for the sick and the good of the order held.
The meeting adjourned at 9:10 pm.
THE NEXT MEETING IS THURSDAY MAY 18, 2006
By Jason Bolte:
Well here it is the Friday before the meeting and I am scrambling to put another newsletter together. I can say that I am really starting to feel the pressure from all of the responsibilities that I have taken on and have come to realize that I may have bitten off more than I can chew. This newsletter could go a lot smoother if I put a deadline on when submissions needed to be in. So as of next month's newsletter all submissions will need to be to me 10 days before the council meeting. Otherwise it will have to be delayed to the following month. Not having everything together by then really puts a strain on me being able to get this to you by the Monday or Tuesday before the meeting and I do not like rushing around at the last minute. I have not had a chance to send out Knight Alerts as of yet so if you know of anyone who has not yet paid their dues please encourage them to take care of it and become active again.
On another note there are many of us team captains that have been doing are job for many years and would like a break from this responsibility. The job itself is not a very difficult one. It requires you to call your team when it is time to work and when someone gets seriously ill. There are plenty of members out there that I know out there that could handle this responsibility I am just asking that you step up to the plate. I want to thank those of you who have stepped up and taken on the new responsibility. If you are ever having problems getting workers let me know and I will do what I can to help find someone for you. I do however feel it is a shame that I should have to say that or that a team captain should have a problem finding a worker. If for some reason you are not available to work you should find someone to switch with so that we are not put in this situation.
As always if there is anything that I can do to be of service please call me and I will do my best to help out with your request. Also remember if you move I need to know so that we can keep you informed.
Fraternally yours,
Jason Bolte

By Dr. John C. Soucy, Jr., M.D.:
Pope Benedict XVI personal homilist had the following to say about the DaVinci Code Movie and book: "There is a growing trend in the media to weave fanciful stories which play shamelessly with Christian beliefs and ancient tradition. As well as making money for the producers and publishers, these stories mislead millions of people. The DaVinci Code portrays the Catholic Church as a corrupt organization, determined to hide certain explosive truths and contains the notion that Jesus married and had descendents. Regarding the recently published so-called Gospel of Judas, he comments, "There is a lot of talk about Judas' betrayal and nobody realizes it is happening all over again. Christ is still being sold, not to religious authorities for thirty pieces of silver, but to publishers and bookshops for billions. These are revisits of the heresy of gnosticism in the early centuries of the Church." It is not fiction; it is a heresy.KNIGHT OF THE MONTH
Our Knight of the Month for March is Rich Green. Rich has been active in our council with many activities, including his teams rotations and our recent fish fries. Rich also took over the position of team captain for Team 7. Being a team captain takes quite a bit of time and energy, which he has applied himself to this with great diligence. Thanks to Rich for all of his hard work and effort. Congratulations for March Knight of the Month.
April's Knight of the Month is Jerry Zerrer. A familiar face at the hall, church and in general in the community, Jerry takes the ideals of the Knights of Columbus seriously. From helping with K of C activities, including meals for the shut-ins, to rosary and also notably the Troy Community Stations of the Cross, Jerry is there whenever he is called upon. Keep up the great work and thanks for all you do! Congratulations Jerry!
March's Family of the Month is Dave and Barb Mennemeyer. Dave was recently included as one of our honorary members for his many years of service to the Knights of Columbus. From softball coordination, hall bookings and the list goes on and on, Dave seems to live out at the hall. We also know that none of this would be possible without the help of his wife Barb. Barb is a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and is constantly assisting Dave with many chores at the hall. It goes without saying that Dave and Barb go way above and beyond in their service to our organization. Congratulations for March's Family of the Month to Dave and Barb Mennemeyer!
Our Family of the Month for February is Steve and Barb Schniedermeyer. Steve and Barb have been longtime members of this council. Steve donates much of his time to the home association, along with helping out with other council activities. Barb is also involved in many activities, including the Ladies Auxiliary and St. Ann's Sodality and whenever she is called upon. Thank you again for all of your hard work and congratulations for Family of the Month for April.
We are getting into the wedding season as well as the softball and horseshoe season. Please keep watching the schedule for when you are scheduled to work.
THE LADIES AUXILIARY COLUMN No minutes submitted for the April meeting.
OUR NEXT MEETING IS TUESDAY JUNE 13th AT 7:30 P.M.

Some Good Clean Fun
An Inmate's Last Wish
The inmate on death row was scheduled to be put to death by firing squad the follow morning. Throughout the day, the prison guards were being very nice to him. But when they asked him if he wanted something specific for his last meal, he didn't want anything special. When they asked if there was something special he wanted to do, he said nothing. It went on like this all day. Finally when he was put before the firing squad, the guard asked if he wanted a cigarette and a blindfold.
"No," the inmate said, "just get it over with."
"Well, is there anything that I can do for you before you go?" said the guard. "You didn't even want a special last meal!"
The inmate thought. "Actually," he said, "Music is my life. One thing I would really like would be to sing my favorite song, one whole time through, with no interruptions."
The guard nodded and told him to go ahead.
The inmate started, "One billion bottles of beer on the wall..."
